Choosing between treatments
Upper blepharoplasty focuses on excess upper-eyelid skin and tissue, while double-eyelid surgery primarily creates a crease. Brow descent and eyelid-opening function must also be assessed. Removing more skin is not always appropriate: the existing crease, eye closure and dry-eye history help determine the extent. The crease or expression may change, and scars can remain.
Recovery and precautions
Swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, asymmetry, dryness and scarring may occur. Lower-eyelid surgery also requires attention to eyelid pulling or outward turning. Early improvement is not complete healing. Work, washing, makeup, contact lenses, exercise and any suture removal depend on the method and healing. Contact the clinic for worsening or unexpected symptoms.
